Block is back
The block came back home today and although it has been hot-tanked to remove all of the inside and outside paint, grease and grime it has a covering of surface rust that needs to be removed. A circular wirebrush should work wonders.
The top has been decked only 0.004". I thought it would be far worse. The third shot shows the crosshatch of the cylinder hone. Very nice job.
Note the first photo where the porosity problem has been fixed with an epoxy applied through and around the top small freeze plug. Because the problem was located so close to the plug, the normal approach of metal plugging could not be used. Metal plugging involves drilling and tapping a metal plug into the problem area. When it is close to an edge there is a real fear of cracking the casting.
