It has been a couple weeks since I was last in Wray's shop and so there has not been much to talk about. The hood is the last major panel to be completed and there isn't much that is left for me to do on it just now. Wray is needed to complete the tricky bits and he has been busy on other things. So I am moving on to refining the panel gaps. For closing the gaps at the boot lid /tonneau areas, Jaguar originally used lead. What is being used here is an epoxy called Panelbond. We used this product earlier for assembling the inner rear structure of the hood. Turns out that this product is also somewhat commonly used for filler at the panel edges. It is dispensed from a sort of double tube caulking gun and the two part epoxy is mixed automatically as it passed through the nozzle. It sticks to everything and it takes overnight to cure unless you add heat. But it is tough, and sands fairly easily. The biggest downside issue is that it is fairly flowable and tends to sag before it is set so a couple applications may be necessary.
The shots are of some of the areas where this product is being used. Panelbond is shiny black after it is set and turns a medium gray after sanding. Oh boy, more sanding parties!
